Bad experience, the hotel is far from all the places . The staff is not at all helpful, requested for a doctor as I had a food poisoning alas no support. Will never take their service in future at any location. Expect no support from staff. Every time you talk to the staff you get a negative vibe.

Mediocre Hotel advertised as Luxury Property - Don't get beguiled

I was visiting Puri with my family for a two nights stay. Wanted a luxury outlet for chilling out. The property is touted as a luxury property, which is a total false claim. There's nothing luxurious about the property. The Brand name "Sonar Bangla" was referred to us based on the luxury property they own at Taki, since the brands we looked for a holiday at Puri were not present at the location. It looked like a renovated old property under a new flagship with resplendent show of mediocrity. The deluxe room was quite small with lack of storage space. There was no seating/ relaxing arrangement in the room (the only sitting arrangement was in the adjacent portico - a table and two chairs) as the bed occupied most of the space. There were no luggage stands to keep the suitcases. So floor was the only choice. There was no full size mirror or dresser for that matter. There was a small fridge, without power, I don't know for what. No concept of minibar. The water provided was not packaged and I assumed it to be only filtered. Can't blame if not. The bathroom was a slice of space with no bathtub or for that matter shower cubicle. A plastic bucket and mug were provided. There was no proper sink stand or cabinets and the toiletries were kept on the commode cistern top. The Flush was broken. Expecting a shaving mirror over here is an audacity from the guest, I presumed! Being the last room at the end if the corridor, there was a housekeeping trolley always stationed in front of the room- you open the door to be greeted with the trolley always. It was shifted to the other part of the corridor when complained, in full sight of all the guests. The most horrendous experience was that the room was infested with cockroaches. On complaining, the housekeeping mopped the floor with phenyl and sprayed insecticides to control the situation. It wasn't a pleasant night sleep with smell of insecticide all over the room. I'm not sure about the type of guests the staff is experienced to handle, as I felt they are quite quipped in retorting back the rights of the guests. I've visited several sea side hotels/ resorts in the past, both in India and abroad, but this is the first property where a hotel staff refused hotel towels to be taken to the beach by the guest. We obliged without any altercation, because we're unsure of what the "trained staff of this Luxury Property" might further do. They have absolutely no resource to support the needs of the guests for a beach side property. But, at the same time, the front desk staff candidly informs you that your room will be made up only when their housekeeping staff is free from completing the rooms that needs to be made up for check in and you've to wait. This is also the first hotel stay where, you get a wake up call from the front desk, without even asking for it. They call you early to remind you that you've to check out in time and shouldn't be late. Also they have an unusual check in and check out timings. Check in is at 9am and check out at 8am. I wondered whether they are literally capable to kick you out of your room, if you delay a bit even after their wake-up call (should read warning call). All this at a price they charged, which is equivalent to a star hotel. Before puri, we'd stayed in ITC hotel at Bhubaneswar and the price of this Luxurious Sonar Bangla was equivalent to a ITC brand hotel, if not more by a couple of thousands. However, the room had a good view of the sea from its portico and the bengali dishes in the restaurant was good, though all items listed on the menu wasn't available. Choices of items at breakfast was limited.

First the good part - Amazing location, stunning views of the sea from the rooms. Food is good too. Rooms are newly refurbished so there is no issue with cleanliness or quality of wares, toiletries etc. owners have clearly invested well in making the hotel a very decent one in terms of amenities and the quality of it. Now the bad part - Room service is a problem, staff is not sensitized to handling guest issues. I ordered my dinner at 8 pm and it came at almost 11 pm. I refused to eat but neither the room service guys nor the front desk staff next day bothered to apologise or even give some explanations. Since the bar is under renovation, all the room service personnel were interested in giving extra services in case one missed the bar!! All in all a decent stay only because of the location and the newly refurbished rooms. Staff service is a spoiler and needs big improvement.

Worst hotel staffs. Misbehaved alot of times. Bed bugs in the room. The rooms stink of fish and only cater to Bengali customers. Serve only Bengali cuisines. Everything is horrible. The service is abysmal. They force you to buy water and even give dirty towels. They check your bags when you go out and were claiming my towels as theirs and later apologised. They even use terms like "bihari guests" for someone from jharkhand Bihar. I request anyone from Bihar jharkhand to not stay here.

I stayed in the hotel with my family from 2nd may to 8th may 2023. The location could not have been better, perhaps the best location in Puri if you want an uncrowded beach right in front of your balcony. You can lie on your bed watching the waves, but for that you have to rent a premium front sea facing room. However room size is a bit small for three persons and there is hardly any space left after the extra bed is put in. The room staff are friendly and housekeeping is consistently engaged to keep the premises clean. The food is a bit overpriced considering the hotel. However big letdowns is authentic Oriya food is not available in the hotel and they concentrate solely on Bengali cuisine. The other minus is the "could not care less" attitude of the front desk staff. Though not downright rude they will definitely not make you feel welcome. The attitude is if you stay it is fine if you do not stay it is fine too, there are lot of other customers.
